How to use it
- Download the .xlsx file and open it in Excel, or upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets.
- Replace the text in square brackets with your business and your customer’s details, and add an invoice number and date.
- Enter each line: description, quantity and unit price. The line totals and subtotal fill in.
- Enter the tax rate if you charge sales tax or VAT; the tax and the amount due update.
- Save it as a PDF and send it. Keep the invoice number sequence unbroken for your records.
What’s on the invoice

Is this invoice template free?
Yes. Download it and use it as often as you like, with no sign-up and no email address.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the .xlsx file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets; the formulas carry over.
What must an invoice include?
Usually your business name and address, the customer’s details, a unique invoice number, the date, what you supplied with prices, any tax charged and the total due. Some countries require more, such as your VAT number, so check the rules where you trade.
How do I add sales tax or VAT?
Enter the rate in the Tax rate cell. The tax is worked out on the subtotal and added to the amount due.
